With nearly a decade of experience in the design industry, Mary Milan Deupree creates brilliant, timeless interiors that astutely reflect her clients’ personalities and sensibilities. She has an affinity for thoughtfully layered spaces incorporating collected antiques or cherished inherited pieces and a permeating appreciation for character and fine craftsmanship. To every aspect of her work, Mary brings a devotion to detail and individuality. Her designs carry a warmth and effortlessness that feel intuitive and intelligently considered, current but also as if they have been in place forever.
Mary’s love for interior design began at an early age, tagging along to showrooms with her late father, a former furniture executive in her hometown of High Point, NC. She actually holds a PhD in an unrelated field, but an inherent, avid love of beauty led Mary back to a career in interiors, where her keen eye for scale and proportion, natural knack for combining patterns, textures, and colors, and uniquely extensive world travels well serve her clients.
Long sought after for advice on design decisions, Mary turned away from her previous career when requests from friends – and friends of friends – took on a life of their own. She established her eponymous design firm, Milan Deupree Interior Design, in 2015 and has since taken on a limited number of exacting clients each year. With her natural talent and warmhearted approachability, Mary weaves together spaces rich in artistry, chic sophistication, and practical livability, and her former consulting career honed skills that enable her to expertly navigate the back-end project management of the design business.
Milan Deupree Interior Design manages large-scale residential projects nationally, currently including a Buckhead estate project in Atlanta, the remodeling of a Winnetka home in the Chicago suburbs, a new construction in Mount Pleasant, an intimate Charleston pied-à-terre, and numerous other renovation and design projects in the Charleston, SC area where Mary lives with her husband and two daughters.
